MARK GIORDANO

Mark Giordano is a geographer and economist with wide experience in economic development, water management, and transboundary resources. Mark is currently Principal Researcher and Head-Institutions and Policy at the International Water Management Institute, one of the 15 Future Harvest centers of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research. There he serves as a principal investigator on a range of projects including the role of trade policy in water use, the role of scale in the impact of water saving technologies, the political ecology of land degradation, and transboundary issues in the management of Africas water resources. Results from his work have appeared in major geography, environmental law, political science and water science journals. In addition to research, Mark is deeply involved in the management and development of a multidisciplinary, multicultural staff and actively serves as a mentor and Gender & Diversity Associate. He maintains links with education, serving as an advisor to graduate students in a variety of disciplines and designing professional curricula on resource management. Prior to joining IWMI, Mark conducted research on transboundary resource issues and lectured on world geography, natural resources, and development at Oregon State University. Previously he served for nearly 10 years as an agricultural trade economist with the U.S. Department of Agricultures Economic Research Service. His international experience includes residency in Austria, Botswana, Cambodia, China, Taiwan, and Zimbabwe. Mark currently lives in Colombo, Sri Lanka. |
