Mulugeta has worked for a diverse range of national, regional, and international institutions. These include IFPRI, FAO, Farm Africa, HYDROC GmbH, Riverside Technology Inc., the World Bank funded projects of NBI-ENTRO and NBI-NileSEC, EU and Germany government funded GIZ projects, World Bank funded Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation program, Italian government funded integrated rural development project, and various water resource planning and development projects for the Ethiopian government. Mulugeta designed and developed enterprise level and project based spatial databases and carried out spatial analysis and cartographic modeling aimed at providing solutions to different areas of water resource planning and development problems. He has primarily worked in the East African countries of Ethiopia, Djibouti, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, and Uganda. Mulugeta has been based at IWMI\’s East Africa office in Addis Ababa since September 2023.
