The International Water Management Institute (IWMI) was honored for a second consecutive year at the National Project Management Excellence (NPME) Awards organized by the Project Management Institute in Sri Lanka. IWMI received the Silver Award under the “Digitalization Process” category for the Climate Smart Governance (CSG) Dashboard for its contribution to national climate adaptation, planning and development.

Launched in collaboration with Sri Lanka’s Department of National Planning and the Climate Change Secretariat of the Ministry of Environment, the CSG Dashboard provides accurate data on climate-related hazards; population vulnerability; water, health, agriculture and ecosystems; infrastructure and climate-related projects. It also tracks Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), is an investment planning tool and forecasts climate scenarios to support coordinated mid- to long-term adaptation planning aligned to global development goals. The Dashboard was developed under the CGIAR Initiative on Climate Resilience.

The awards ceremony took place in Colombo on May 31, 2024. Giriraj Amarnath, Principal Researcher for Disaster Risk Management and Climate Resilience at IWMI, celebrated the achievement. “The Climate Smart Governance Dashboard is a game-changer. It empowers national and development partners to invest strategically in climate-vulnerable regions. This award recognizes the commitment to excellence on the part of IWMI and our partners at the National Planning and Treasury Departments and the Climate Change Secretariat.”

Leel Randeni, Director, Climate Change, at the Climate Change Secretariat explained that the CSG Dashboard addresses the critical gap in climate data and accessible, localized modelling tools for decision-making on climate adaptation measures. “The CSG dashboard is one way to bring together multi-scale data from projects with environmental, economic and social perspectives to identify community-level needs and provide policymakers informed adaptation options.”

IWMI received the Award for Excellence at the 2023 edition of the NPME Awards for the Earth Observation for Agricultural Risk Management (EO4ARM) application for its contribution to accelerating Sri Lanka’s agricultural digital transformation.
