In Nepal’s mid-hills, traditional farming faces challenges due to infrastructure gaps, labor shortages, and climate risks. The International Water Management Institute, in collaboration with other organizations and local governments, conducted research on Sustainable Intensification of Mixed Farming Systems (SI-MFS). Farmers expressed interest in innovation, particularly in water conservation, livestock improvement, and agro-mechanization. Women prioritized tools to reduce their workload, while men focused on high-value fruits. Scaling these innovations requires inclusive policies, addressing social norms, and providing training and market access. Enhancing agricultural value chains and infrastructure is crucial for the region’s prosperity and food security.
