The ‘Resilience’ project aims to enhance the adoption of efficient micro irrigation systems, including sprinklers and drip irrigation, among smallholder farmers in the Indian states of Odisha and Assam. These systems are being promoted to improve agricultural productivity, adaptive capacity, and livelihoods in the face of climate and economic changes.
The project, launched in 2018 and supported by Norway’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is a collaboration with the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) and involves installing micro irrigation systems in partnership with state governments and agricultural institutions. While these systems offer significant water savings and increased crop yields, challenges such as lack of awareness and financial constraints among farmers have hindered their widespread adoption, highlighting the need for ongoing awareness campaigns and support to address these barriers.
