The International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH) has named Tushaar Shah, a senior fellow with the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), as the recipient of its Distinguished Associate Award, 2018. The award “is presented to a person who . . . has made an outstanding contribution to the understanding, development, management and protection of groundwater resources internationally.”
Noting that Shah has “published extensively” on “water institutions and policies in South Asia,” the award specifically recognizes his “notable contributions” in “comparative analysis of groundwater governance in South Asia, China and Mexico” and his more recent “analysis of institutions and policies across Asia and between South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa.” The award further acknowledges his extensive work “on the energy-irrigation nexus in India.”
Established in 2005, the award is given by decision of the IAH Executive Committee, based on a consultative process. The IAH is a “scientific and educational charitable organisation for scientists, engineers, water managers and other professionals working in the fields of groundwater resource planning, management and protection. Founded in 1956, it has grown to a world-wide membership of more than 4000 individuals.”
