UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme (IHP) is the only intergovernmental cooperation programme of the United Nations system dedicated to water research and management, and related education and capacity development. The IHP seeks to enable all stakeholders to participate in the creation of a new, sustainable, water culture. The IHP’s just started its ninth phase (IHP-IX, 2022-2029), which puts science to action for a Water Secure World, in a Changing Environment.

Population pressure and increasing water competition in a changing climate require us to take stock of the availability and use of water across scales. Water availability not only influences farmers’ commercial prospects but also irrigation-related enterprises and agri-businesses.
