Regional Conference on Risks and Solutions
Adaptation Frameworks for Water Resources Planning, Development and Management in South Asia
Following the historic global climate agreement in Paris last December, scientists and policy makers from across South Asia are meeting in Colombo this week to discuss how water management can better respond to future climate adaptation needs.
Speakers include Professor Mohan Munasinghe, the Sri Lankan representative on the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
Also presenting will be Dr Casey Brown (World Bank) and Professor Aris Georgakakos (Georgia Institute of Technology), two leading experts who have developed tools for addressing climate change uncertainty in water resources development and planning.
This will be the first time since the Paris meeting that South Asian and international experts have been able to address collectively how climate change will impact water resources management and how this can be improved to help mitigate the negative impacts of climate change. Above all, the meeting will be an important first step in devising new approaches to building more water secure futures for societies across the region.
