Implementing RRR businesses and related feasibility studies (CapVal)
This combined set of projects aims to enhance safe use of municipal solid waste, excreta, and wastewater in agriculture as revenue source for the waste or sanitation value chain. To achieve that, four public-private partnerships (PPPs) are at various stages of development under the Waste to Food (WaFo) and Creating and Capturing Value (CapVal) projects of the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) to produce e.g. 500 tons of Fortifer in Ghana in two co-composting plants, one plant to convert organic solid waste into low-cost fuel (1,000 tons of briquettes) and one on the use of wastewater treatment ponds for aquaculture. The project also includes a marketing strategy design project for Fortifer and pre-feasibility technical studies for Burkina Faso. The outcome is to support implementation of resource recovery and reuse (RRR) businesses in developing countries.
