Sri Lanka’s First Young Water Professional Symposium

This opportunity is for young water professionals in Sri Lanka to define their aspirations, articulate their perspectives, clarify their roles in relation to personal, institutional and national goals and contribute out of the box thinking to better plan, manage and utilize our water resources.

Sri Lanka Water Partnership (SLWP) together with the co-sponsors, International Water Management Institute (IWMI) & Unilever Pureit announced the first ever Young Water Professionals Symposium to be held from 22nd – 23rd November 2012.
The symposium is open to graduate level mid career water professionals (below 35 years) employed in water sector institutions with at least seven years of work/study experience in water related matters. Such individuals are encouraged to submit one page abstracts before the 15th of August under any of the following subject areas, namely; optimizing water utilization, water delivery, economic/ financial feasibility, good governance, environmental stability as well as cross cutting themes. Joint papers dealing with inter-sectoral issues are also encouraged.

Issuing a collective communiqué, the main organizer SLWP and the event associates IWMI & Unilever Pureit stated, “This is the first ever Young Water Professionals Symposium to be held in Sri Lanka, presenting a unique opportunity for Young water professionals for their high-level involvement in knowledge generation in the water category. We further anticipate that this symposium will serve as a platform to voice and share knowledge to better understand the water footprint in Sri Lanka.”

Call for Abstracts
The abstracts which should be submitted on or before 15th August will be evaluated by a technical committee of sector experts and 25 selected applicants will be requested to submit the full paper version which should not exceed 10 pages. Selected papers will be presented by the respective authors at the symposium.

Selected presenters will be eligible for an honorarium of up to Rs 20,000/- and the best two presenters will be sponsored to participate in a selected international water related event. A special prize will also be awarded to the best presentation on the theme “Optimizing water Utilization – Water quality”.
