Implemented by the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) and the South Asia office of the Global Water Partnership (GWP), the project duration is 3-years funded by the Department of State (DOS) of the United States Government. In India the focal government organisation is the Central Water Commission (CWC).

The broad aim of the project is to enhance water security by: i) strengthening capacities for integrated water storage planning and management; ii) enabling relevant ministries and line agencies to make better use of data and approaches for understanding water storage gaps and the options to fill them; iii) facilitating dialogue to address water storage gaps; and iv) addressing historical inequalities, especially in terms of who benefits from, and who implements and manages, water storage. In India, Narmada River basin is proposed as the study basin in consultation with CWC.
