March 22-24th, 2023 marks the first United Nations (UN) Water Conference to convene in over forty years. Coinciding with World Water Day, decision-makers, experts, advocates and members of water networks will meet at UN headquarters in New York to work towards a bold Water Action Agenda that will steer the global community back on track to achieving water-related goals and targets.

The IWMI delegation to the UN Water Conference hopes to influence the creation of ambitious, action-oriented, concrete commitments within the UN Water Action Agenda by advocating alongside our allies for the eight mission-driven outcomes of the Transformative Futures for Water Security Initiative, formed through a series of multi-stakeholder dialogues across the Global South. The TFWS missions reflect high-ambition, transformative targets for science-based action on water security that seek to accelerate UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6 and water security for all. Throughout the conference, IWMI delegation members will speak at several UN side-events highlighting the importance of water systems across a range of topics, such as sustainable food systems, women’s inclusion, and resilience against climate change.
