CGIAR launched the CGIAR Initiative on National Policies and Strategies (NPS) with national and international partners to build policy coherence, respond to policy demands and crises, and integrate policy tools at national and subnational levels in countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.  Under this initiative, the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) and Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) have researched the policy landscape at National level in India in the food, land, and water (FLW) space. NITI Aayog, the apex public policy think tank of Government of India, is guiding and supporting this research.

Based on qualitative and quantitative criteria, we have shortlisted seven governance instruments pertaining to FLW space in India – Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme; Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana – Per Drop More Crop; National Mission for Clean Ganga – Namami Gange Programme; Pradhaan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana; Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture; Pradhaan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana – Watershed Development Component; and Atal Bhujal Yojana. In order to understand coherence in these governance instruments experts from both within the Government of India and from academia, non-governmental organisations, and think tanks have been consulted.

The workshop aim to:

  • Share our research findings with the attendees.

Take insights on the nature of recommendations for India to strengthen policy coherence in its FLW space
