University of Nebraska smallholder irrigation sub-saharan africa

WLE is co-presenting a workshop on smallholder irrigation in sub-Saharan Africa that will explore the potential of small-scale irrigation technologies to improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers in a region that has great seasonal water variability. Because this is a key opportunity for better food security, possible public and private methods for overcoming extant constraints and obstacles will be explored.

Hosted by the Water for Food Institute, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and KickStart International, this workshop will serve as a springboard for a new campaign supporting expanded irrigation in sub-Saharan Africa. Join us to define the challenges facing smallholder farmers from technical, economic, social and environmental perspectives and develop a framework for solutions.

This workshop will be held in conjunction with the 2016 Water for Food Global Conference, which will take place at the University of Nebraska on April 24, 2016. Registration is now open.
