Project Profile

Assessing irrigation subsidies in Andhra Pradesh, India

Duration : August 1, 2009 - February 28, 2010
(Extended to March 31, 2011)
Overview:

The Global Subsidies Initiative (GSI) of the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) has developed a methodology for assessing irrigation subsidies. The goal is to provide internationally comparable national estimates of irrigation subsidies. The methodology is a first attempt designed to help develop a uniform method of subsidy analysis. As part of that effort, GSI-IISD commissioned two country case studies in which researchers apply the framework provided. Each report will provide estimates of irrigation subsidies and include the data, sources and a clear description of how the estimates were derived, as well as a description of any subsidies which may not have been fully assessed. In India, Andhra Pradesh State is covered for the estimation of subsidy.
