
Technical Assistance for the Revival of the Balochistan Water Resources Programme
The Revival of Balochistan Water Resources Programme is a European Union-funded initiative of EUR 40 million It is designed to contribute to the transition of agriculture and livestock farming systems in Balochistan achieving lower water intensity and improving environmental and economic sustainability. The Programme is implemented through two distinct but complementary implementing contracts working closely together under a project steering committee. The technical assistance component in Balochistan will contribute to: a) strengthening the governance of water resources and rangelands; b) developing alternative agricultural and livestock farming systems based on low water agro-economy; and c) increasing the availability of qualified agro-technology cadres. The consortium is led by Landell Mills. IWMI’s USD 5 million component includes the implementation of 4 field research studies. IWMI’s Project Leader is Dr Mohsin Hafeez.
