Policy support to the Swiss-China Cooperation Project-Rehabilitation and Management Strategy for Over-Pumped Aquifers under Changing Climate
The agricultural sector is heavily dependent on groundwater across Asia, which has contributed to major increases in food production, and consequently, food security of Asian countries. However, groundwater systems are under increasing pressure throughout the continent and particularly in China; and these is near-universal consensus that abstraction needs to substantially reduced. This project will build evidence-based solutions that (a) are able to moderate abstraction and keep it within sustainable levels; and (b) are implementable in the local, regional, and national context.
