Water energy food (WEF) nexus as a framework for catchment-based assessments: the case of the Inkomati-Usuthu Catchment
This project intends to apply a Water-Energy-Food (WEF) nexus framework at a catchment level for the Inkomati-Usuthu Catchment in Mpumalanga, including the development of a process to guide real decision-making. This project will use the lnkomati catchment in Mpumalanga as a pilot study to apply a detailed procedure of documenting all the contributing factors for this area. As the lnkomati-Usuthu catchment has been operating a detailed catchment management programme for a number of years, there is sufficient data available to make such an analysis. The outputs of this project are expected to provide integrated solutions that focus on the complex relationships among sectors, water management and distribution throughout the lnkomati-Usutu catchment. Therefore, overall, it will improve the livelihoods of all communities in lnkomati-Usutu catchment by creating awareness and consciousness about Water-Energy-Food Nexus.
