Contemporary challenges of increasing uncertainty, climate shocks, biodiversity loss and environmental degradation, provide an urgent impetus to sharpen the focus and increase the effectiveness of future water research and innovation. Over the past 6 months, a set of seven missions for inclusive, science-based action on water security were co-developed with youth “guardians” and stakeholders from around the world. These missions address stakeholder priorities from across policy, development, business and science constituencies, and represent shared priorities to guide research and innovation for future water security. This NEXUS Gains talk will present the Transformative Futures for Water Security (TFWS) process that led to their development and a preview of the missions, which will be formally launched at the UN 2023 Water Conference in March.

Speaker:

  • Mark Smith, Director General, International Water Management Institute: The TFWS process and messages for the UN 2023 Water Conference
