Conservation of Biodiversity and Ecosystems Functions and improved well-being of Highland and Lowland Communities within Bale Eco Region (BER)

This project addresses the negative impacts of population dynamics, climate change and unsustainable land use, resulting in natural resource degradation and further food and nutrition insecurity in the Bale Eco Region, Ethiopia. The research component acknowledges the principle role that water plays in sustaining ecosystem services and dependent livelihoods which are interlinked between highland with lowland communities. The project includes the setting up of watershed monitoring platforms and systems, piloting of soil and water conservation interventions, while building human and institutional capacity at all levels (https://eastafrica.iwmi.cgiar.org/)
