Madhu Sarin

Madhu Sarin has been working on gender equal community based natural resource management for over 30 years in both policy and practice. She joined the Campaign for Survival and Dignity (CSD), an informal alliance of grassroots movements to fight for the rights of impoverished forest dwellers facing large scale evictions from government forest lands about 12 years ago. Sarin was a member of the Technical Support Group constituted by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs which drafted the Indian Forest Rights Act passed by Parliament in 2006. Since then, together with CSD and other movements, she has been involved in pushing for proper implementation of the law. She has also an honorary Fellow of the Rights and Resources Initiative (RRI) based in Washington DC.
