THRIVENET RESEARCHER TRAVEL GRANT – GENDER / EQUITY
WLE affiliated researchers - Do you need funds to help attending an event related to your equity-related research? Thrive offers grants up to $1500 toward travel to a sustainable agriculture-related event, including conferences, international events, field visits, professional development. Your research should be related to gender, youth, migration, smallholder empowerment or addressing marginalization.

- Travel: must be between April 1 and Dec 15, 2019. Funds cover economy airfare, event hotel and event participation, up to $1500

GRANTS & SUPPORT
- Call for Nominees for the 2019 Maize Youth Innovators Awards – Africa, CGIAR’s Maize. Apply by March 15
- Global Resilience Partnership has launched its Innovation Challenge designed to identify and nurture novel examples of resilience, including on food/ag issues. Apply by March 5
- The Structural Transformation of African Agriculture and Rural Spaces (STAARS) fellowship - early-career African researchers, from CGIAR’s PIM and others. Application deadline: March 1, 2019.
- Nominate an individual who has made a significant contribution to environmental preservation and global sustainability for the Bright Award for Environmental Sustainability. Recipients receive $100,000 and delivers a public lecture at Stanford University. Apply by March 30th.
- FAO is giving out the A.H. Boerma Award for journalists who have successfully steered public attention towards food security topics. Prize includes $10,000. Apply by January 31st.
- Deadline for the Erbacher Foundation support for Rural Development 2019 is February 1st. The foundation supports research in subject areas such as crop production, drinking water and environmental protection in India, Tanzania and Uganda.
- CS Fund and Warsh-Mott Legacy is giving out grants to organizations and projects focused on Emerging Technologies, Food Sovereignty and Rights and Governance. Recent grants include several for Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa. Most grants are under US$20 thousand. Letters of inquiry can be sent at any time.
- The French Committee for International Solidarity is accepting project proposals relating to local initiatives to strengthen access to food through sustainable and sustainable West African family farming. Deadline for applications is 25 February 2019.
CALLS FOR PAPERS/EVENTS:
- Submit an abstract under the theme “Resilient Rivers” by February 15th to the 22nd International River symposium (October 20 – 24th).
- The International Journal of Agriculture, Innovations and Research (IJAIR) is accepting submission for Volume 7, Issue 4, Jan – Feb.
- The Sustainable Water Future Programme (Water Future) is accepting abstracts for their conference in Bengaluru, India 24th – 27th September 2019.
- Registration is open for the Eat Stockholm Food Forum (June 2019) as well as the newly launched EAT-Lancet Commission on Food, Planet, and Health.
- Submit an abstract to the International Conference on 'Successful Transformation toward Land Degradation Neutrality (Future Perspective) by 15 February 2019. Conference will be held in Ankara, Turkey from 17 to 19 July 2019.
LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES AND RESOURCES:
- Webinar: Enhancing Food System Resilience, by CGIAR’s Forests, Trees and Agroforestry (FTA), Feb 12
- A fully funded Writeshop-Workshop for the Journal of Peasant Studies for up to 20 researchers will be held July 1 – 7th 2019. Apply by March 1st.
- The Extraordinary Session of the Commission for Hydrology has opened a pre-session discussion platform to gather opinions from the hydrological community. This session will be held at the World Meteorological Organization Feb 13th – 14th.
- Wageningen University will be hosting a Landscape governance course between April 1 – 12, 2019. Applications are due February 18th.
- Apply for one of the open positions at the International Water Management Institute. Closing dates are in February.
- The Bergen Summer Research School offers short courses for PhD and young researchers on themes of urgent societal problems including one on water management and sustainable development. Stipends are available. Apply by February 15th.

This year, WLE will launch “A Fairer Future” campaign and support IWMI on “A Fair Water Future” – both aiming to bring attention to equity issues and help researchers reach their equity related goals.
