This contributes to giving markets and entrepreneurship a bad name. Data from Tanzania I've just been working on shows that access to markets is the most important factor in increasing milk yields of smallholder farmers. You would have been better advised to conclude the same way you started: "the simple belief that intensifying agricultural production and driving up farm yields will deliver forest protection seems economically illiterate".
