I am interested in gender research in the area of women’s farming associations.
In the province of Cañar, Ecuador there has been considerable emigration, mainly by the men, leaving women to manage the farms and to lead civic organizations.
Women have adopted new roles and taken on new responsibilities.
Women have formed these associations in order to help each other with farming tasks. They have found an innovative way to compensate for the labor shortage.
These associations also explore seed development and diversification, soil restoration, and improved entry into local markets.
The women have defined their goals, devised plans of action, and drawn up budgets.
We believe that research into the organization and development of these associations would help the women to evaluate their progress and to make corrections and improvements in their structure.
