Thanks Gregory. You have picked up the essence of the article about being cautious when extrapolating from one situation to another. I think this is so obvious that it need not be repeated, but given what is at stake we do need to make sure that any extrapolation as well as individual assessments are done well and do not provide false hope. I don't think that investing in the well being of people and conservation of ecosystems through sound investigations should be beyond our societies. We do have ample expertise and guidance - making sure we apply it rigorously and taking note of uncertainties or limitations should be part and parcel of the investigations. And that includes being aware of variability, including the extremes that may happen. Again, I think we have the expertise to do that, and to do it well.
