Doing business in Burma – Biofuels: environmental consequences

The effect on food prices of the decision by many US farmers to begin production of biofuels has already been widely reported. Now, a report by the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) argues that plans by China and India to raise biofuel production from irrigated maize and sugarcane could aggravate water shortages and undermine food output.
