Stakeholder Consultation

Nairobi Workshop, 13 - 16 May 2001

Stakeholder Consultation Workshop

ICRAF, Nairobi, Kenya
14-16 May 2001

IWMI / IDRC / USAID - supported

  From 14 - 16 May 2001 the first SIMA Stakeholders' Consultation was held at ICRAF Headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya. The results from the electronic discussion served as a base for the workshop.

This workshop was attended by 41 participants from the following institutional categories :

  • CGIAR Centers (IWMI, IFPRI, IPGRI, WARDA and ICRAF);
  • other international centers and institutions of advanced research (ICIPE, DBL, NRI, University of Copenhagen);
  • donor representatives (IDRC, DFID, USAID, UNEP);
  • six countries from the East and Southern African region (Mozambique, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya).
  By having the various groups participate in the Nairobi consultation, it was possible to simultaneously capture the global (CGIAR) and country/regional elements of the SIMA program. Insights on the latter were obtained by learning from experiences and expectations of the countries in East and Southern Africa.

  One of the major outcomes of the workshop was an Action Plan, drafting the outline of SIMA in terms of organizational structure, activities and research themes. This Action Plan served as the base document for the overall SIMA mother proposal.
