Integrated Water Resources Management in the Ferghana Valley (IWRM-Ferghana)
SOUTH FERGHANA CANAL
Total Length: 135 km incl. 60 km in
Andijan and 85 km in Ferghana Province
Service Area: 83,884 ha, incl. 26,983
ha in Andijan, 53,155 ha in Ferghana and 3,746 ha
in Osh Province, Kyrgyzstan
Water users: SFC serves the needs of
10 administrative districts and 1 town:
- 3 districts in Andijan Province - Khojaabad, Bulakbashi
and Marhamat;
- 1 district in Osh Province, Kyrgyzstan - Aravan;
and
- 6 districts and 1 town in Ferghana Province – Quva,
Tashkaq, Yazyavan, Ferghana, Akhunbabaev, Altiariq
and town of Quvasay.
SFC serves a total of 96 primary water users and 1182
secondary water users located in the above districts.
The canal flow originates from the Andijan Water Reservoir
and is additionally regulated in the mid-stream by
Karkidon Water Reservoir which is of an off-stream
type and fed by the Isfayramsay Stream and the Quvasay
Canal off the Karadarya River.
