Environmental Water Requirements at the Global Scale: Developing a “Rule Of Thumb” Assessment Method

Placeholder for layout

Environmental water requirements need to be assessed at the global scale to increase the awareness about continuous degradation of aquatic ecosystems and increased competition for water between agriculture, environment and other users. This project initiated the development of tools for such assessment and illustrated the effects of environmental water characteristics on current and future water resources use by mapping them at the global scale.

Collaborators: World Resources Institute (WRI), Kassel University ( Germany), IUCN ( Switzerland)

Duration: 2002
