Relief effort in Kalametiya >
Project activities
In the aftermath of the Tsunami, a relief effort was begun in
Kalametiya (mainly through the effort of interested individuals
and organizations), with dry rations and basic medical supplies
being provided to those who have lost their livelihoods as well
as temporary shelter being provided in the local temples and
schools to those who have been displaced. While this meets the
community’s immediate needs, it remains critical to also
assist these people on a more long-term basis. |

towards rebuilding/repairing some of these houses.
The KRDT will work in close consultation with
the local village societies and coordinate and liaise with other
major projects in the area such as the Coastal Resource Management
Project (CRMP) and the Global Environment Facility – Rekewa,
Ussangoda, Kalametiya (GEF-RUK) project, as well as other government
efforts in the area to ensure that we avoid duplication of relief
and rehabilitation activities and maximize the benefits achieved
under the Trust Fund to the local communities in Kalametiya.
