Agriculture-wetlands interactions

IWMI was accepted as the fifth International Organisation Partner (IOP) of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands at COP9, the Ninth Meeting of the Conference of the Contracting Parties to the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands in Kampala, Uganda, 2005 (Resolution IX.16) alongside the Conventions IOPs, The World Conservation Union - IUCN, World Wide Fund for Nature - WWF, Wetlands International and BirdLife International. Through participation in or leadership of working groups within the Ramsar STRP over the 2002-2005 triennium and the current triennium (2006-2008), the project has assisted in and continues to assist with, among other activities, the preparation of new policy-relevant technical guidance on river basin management, groundwater-wetlands interactions, methodologies for the determination and implementation of environmental water requirements for rivers and other wetlands, frameworks for wetland inventory, assessment and monitoring, methods for economic valuation for wetlands, and best practice in the management of agriculture in Ramsar sites and other wetlands or international importance.
