Preliminary finding from the China study: "The results show that many existing projections [on the impacts of China's WTO accession] are unrealistic due to water scarcity. On a commodity basis, the paper argues that China will import more wheat and export less vegetable and fruits than is typically believed from previous projections. The findings highlight that the inclusion of the water use effects and impacts of changes in global agricultural trade policy are potentially crucial in the effective design of both agricultural and water resources policy" |
