ADAPT: WATER, CLIMATE, FOOD AND ENVIRONMENT UNDER CLIMATE CHANGE: AN ASSESSMENT OF GLOBAL, REGIONAL IMPACTS AND THE FORMULATION OF ADAPTATION STRATEGIES FOR RIVER BASINS (2002-2003)

The most significant result of this project was that it provided a suitable methodology for developing and assessing adaptation strategies to climate change at a regional scale. Now, as a result of this project, the Mekong River Commission is requesting IWMI to help in analyzing the climate change scenarios in their study on Integrated Basin Flow Management (IBFM) Phase 3. Listed below are the results of the project:

  • A generic methodology for river basin called Adaptation Methodology for River Basin (AMR) that allows the development and assessment of adaptation strategies
  • Seven case studies of seven river basins in developed and developing countries, with different sizes from small to large, and varying from dry to wet conditions
  • A book on adaptation strategies for water, food and environment under climate change in contrasting river basins. This book can be seen as a handbook for regional water management to develop and evaluate adaptation strategies to climate change and climate variability
