IWMI Publications

IWMI's on-line publication section contains several thousand pages of peer reviewed research on water management. All research outputs and publications produced by IWMI are international public goods, freely available to partners in developing countries and to members of the international development, academic and research communities.

Research Report Series
The IWMI Research Reports Series is the Institute's flagship research publications, a series of internationally peer-reviewed research reports. The review process for Research Reports is similar to the review process for recognized international scientific journals (anonymous peer review). The purpose of research reports is to highlight generic scientific tools and lessons that can be culled from IWMI research.
This series was created in 1995 and is well known in the worldwide community of water resources management, irrigation and agricultural research. Several thousand are distributed to readers and institutions in developing countries and the international development community. Several thousand more are downloaded from this web site.

Comprehensive Assessment Research Report Series
The CA Research Report series captures results of collaborative research conducted under the Comprehensive Assessment of Water Management in Agriculture. It also includes reports contributed by individual scientists and organizations that significantly advance knowledge on key Assessment questions. Each report undergoes a rigorous peer-review process. The research presented in the series feeds into the Assessment's primary output - a "State of the World" report and set of options back by hundreds of leading water and development professionals and water users.

Water Policy Briefings
The Water Policy Briefing series presents new perspectives and solutions to water problems in developing countries. Each briefing is based on peer-reviewed research that challenges policy makers and planners to think differently about the way water is managed for agriculture.
The series has grown out of research conducted by the IWMI-TATA Water Policy Program in India, which recommends solutions to India's water crisis. It is now being expanded to provide policy recommendations from the research of the International Water Management Institute and its partners.

Working Paper Series
IWMI Working Papers document the work and thinking of IWMI researchers that fall outside the scope of the generic concepts presented in the Research Report Series. These publications are a collection of conference or workshop proceedings, discussion papers or reports on progress of research, country-specific research papers, monographs, selected reports to donors and partners, etc. Working Papers are reviewed internally. SWIM Papers
SWIM, the System-Wide Initiative on Water Management, is a collaborative program of research involving many different Future Harvest Centers. The purpose of SWIM is to bring a range of perspectives and expertise to bear on some of the key challenges of water management. Publications cover state-of-the-art and methodology papers that assisted the identification of priorities for SWIM and reports on the results of SWIM studies.

Pakistan Report Series
IWMI's Pakistan National Program has produced research finding and results in the form of its own publication seriesâ€”dating from 1986 through 2000, when the series was discontinued. Summaries of these reports are now available on-line.
