Agricultural Engineer

Global Research Division, RS/ GIS & NR Management

He has joined the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) in 2002 and currently holds the position of Research Officer
attached to the Research Division at IWMI HQ. His main area of work relates to water management research. At IWMI, for the past
seven years, He has worked on irrigation management issues, wastewater reuse in agriculture, hydrology and the application of
remote sensing and GIS for water resource management. He was also able to setup, calibrated and validated a Variable Infiltration
Capacity (VIC) macro scale hydrological model for the Solani watershed in northern India and he also has experience in meso scale
semi-distributed hydrological modeling which he learnt in the process of setting, validating and calibrating the Soil Water Analysis
Tool (SWAT) for the Solani Watershed in India and the Kulna River Basin in Bangaldesh. In addition he has contributed his remote
sensing and GIS knowledge and expertise to other IWMI research projects and he is a key player in the RS & GIS lab where he has
worked on the IWMI Global Irrigated Area Mapping (GIAM) Project and contributed to the IWMI Data Store House Pathway (DSP).

In October 2007 he has participated in a nine month RS & GIS Training Program conducted by the Indian Institute of Remote
Sensing (IIRS), Deheradun, India. Upon completion of this Training Program he was awarded the Postgraduate Diploma for RS & GIS
and a Gold medal for his superior achievements. In 1999 he has graduated as a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (four years
Special Degree) from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. In 2005, he was awarded a Master of Philosophy (Mphil) degree for
Agriculture Engineering from the Post Graduate Institute of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya.
