Priyanie is a Senior Researcher attached to the International Water Management Institute, at its Hyderabad office, India. She is a Prasitologist by training and has teaching and research experience in the broad area of environmental health, with a special emphasis on arthropod-borne diseases of human importance, and community health and nutrition, related to food and water resource availability. More recently, her interests have been in the areas of wastewater agriculture (health impacts) and multi-stakeholder policy design and action planning in urban/ peri-urban agriculture. She has been involved in, and also lead multidisciplinary research studies in a number of countries (Sri Lanka, England, Thailand, Puerto Rico, Pakistan, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Bangladesh and India) in different cultural settings, and has provided academic supervision and guidance to a large number of undergraduate and post graduate students. Prior to joining the International Water Management Institute, she was in the University system for twenty five years (University of Peradeniya, Cambridge University and University of Maryland USA), and brings with her extensive academic and administrative experiences. She has also served in many national scientific committees in Sri Lanka, has organized national and international conferences, workshops and capacity building programs in countries where research studies have been carried out. She has published widely, and has over 40 peer-reviewed journal articles; around 75 conference abstracts, proceedings, book chapters and technical reports. |
