Meredith Giordano is a broadly trained development expert with an academic background in water resources geography, international relations and public accounting. Meredith currently serves as the Research Director for the International Water Management Institute (IWMI). IWMI is a $25 million research institute based in Colombo, Sri Lanka and is one of 15 Centers supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). As Research Director, Meredith is responsible for the overall management and quality of the institutes research portfolio focused on improving water management for food, livelihoods and nature. In addition to research management, Merediths personal research focuses primarily on international water relations, and over the past seven years she has conducted analyses of transboundary hydropolitics at the global scale and in the context of the Middle East, South Asia, and Southern Africa. More recently, Meredith has also conducted studies on the impact of natural resources management research. The results of her research have been published in such outlets as the Geographic Journal, Natural Resources Journal, and Water Resources Research. Complementing her management and research functions, Meredith is also actively involved in IWMIs capacity building activities through her role as a mentor in the Institutes Gender and Diversity Program and innovative Leadership Development Program. Prior to joining IWMI, Meredith served as a university instructor of regional and human geography at Oregon State University, as a Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Agency for International Development, and as an auditor with Arthur Andersen & Co. Merediths academic and professional work have given her substantial international experience including time living and working in China, Eastern Europe, South Asia, Southeast Asia and Southern Africa.
