| Jonathan Woolley has 29 years professional experience and residence in developing countries. He worked first as a researcher and trainer in national, regional and international agricultural institutions. He then focussed on the preparation and review of development projects that addressed agricultural research and extension, through a wide range of consultancies for multilateral and bilateral agencies, private firms and international organisations. More recently he has managed large agricultural research projects directed at institutional reform and increasing research capability. He has significant practical experience in 20 Latin American and Caribbean countries, 14 in anglophone, francophone and lusophone Africa, six in Asia and eight in Oceania. His principal skills and areas of professional experience include Progressive experience in leadership of international teams in research and in project preparation, implementation and review; Determination of research and extension priorities based on diagnosis with farmers and other actors; Design and implementation of competitive funds for agricultural research and extension; Strengthening linkages among producers, researchers and extensionists through participatory methods in project design and implementation; Practical and theoretical training of graduate professionals; preparation of training materials and manuals; Facilitation of workshops, discussions and reviews on scientific and institutional issues; Design and implementation of monitoring and evaluation systems for research; Natural resources management research, including cropping systems agronomy and methodology development for on-farm research; Well-developed ability for clear oral and written synthesis and for report preparation; Bilingualism in English (native language) and Spanish from 25 years residence in Latin America; good working knowledge of French; limited knowledge of Portuguese; Familiarity with a wide range of computer software
