Akmal Karimov has 20 years experience in the field of water and soil resources management in arid zone, including multipurpose use of water resources, on-farm soil and water management, ground and surface water conjunctive use for irrigation, salinity control, application GIS for water allocation needs. Has worked in both the research institutions and universities on a wide range of water&soil related projects. In 1996-1997, he was co-principal investigator of the joint Tashkent Irrigation and Melioration Institute and University of Texas at Austin project on Modeling of water allocation of Amudarya River. In 1998, he was a Senior Fullbrigth Scholar at US Salinity Laboratory. From November 2000 to June 2005 he was Soil and Water Specialist (NPO) of ADB funded regional project on “On-farm Soil and Water Management for Sustainable Production Systems in Central Asia” implemented by ICARDA.
Akmal Karimov was appointed Technical Coordinator of the “Land degradation..” ADB funded project implemented by IWMI in collaboration with ICARDA and ICBA and NARES of Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, effective July 2005.
