ADITI MUKHERJI

Aditi Mukherji holds a PhD (2007) in Geography from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom. The topic of her thesis was 'Political economy of groundwater markets in West Bengal, India: Evolution, extent and impacts'. Her PhD study was supported by the prestigious Gates Cambridge Trust and she was one of the five Indians to be awarded the Gates Cambridge Fellowship for period of 2003-06. She also holds M.Phil, M.A., and B.Sc (Honours) degrees from some of the best academic institutions in India.
Aditi joined International Water Management Institute (IWMI) Colombo as a post-doctoral fellow (Economics) in 2006. Prior to joining IWMI, Colombo, she had worked as a junior researcher at IWMI-Tata Policy Program located at Anand, India. She has also worked as a scientific officer at International Crop Research Institute for the Semi Arid Tropics (ICRISAT). Since 2001, Aditi has researched extensively on natural resource management and livelihood issues with a special focus on groundwater irrigation and its role in agrarian economy of South Asia. At IWMI, she is involved with two groundwater projects, viz. the Challenge Program funded Groundwater Governance in Asia Project and the European Union funded Sustainable Management of Groundwater in Hard Rock Aquifers Project. She has published several journal articles, book chapters and has participated in a number of international conferences mostly as an invited speaker. She has acted as Associate editor for the Hydrogeology Journal, has reviewed articles for the World Development and is currently co-editing a book to be published by the Francis and Taylor Publishers.
